Frank Lloyd Wright Excursion
(Fallingwater (724-329-8501); Kentuck Knob (724-329-1901) and Chalk Hill)
We suggest a full day for this trip
(approximately 50 miles one way)
Enjoy a day visiting 2 homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the scenic Laurel Highlands. Fallingwater is located approximately 50 miles from Deep Creek Lake. Allow a full hour to get to Fallingwater and be sure to call for a reservation in advance. While in the area, stop at some of the gift shops in Chalk Hill, lunch at the Stone House and enjoy a glass of wine at the Christian W. Klay Winery. There are some Amish Furniture shops along the way also.
Directions: Take Route 219 north (1 mile) to Route 42 north – left at the Police Barracks. Travel on Route 42 through Markleysburg and take Route 40 West. Travel approximately 9 miles. Take a right onto Fallingwater Road (Route 381) and drive through the charming river rafting town of Ohiopyle. Fallingwater is well marked beyond Ohiopyle. After your tour, travel 3 miles further on Fallingwater Road and you can stop on at Bear Run Nature Reserve.
To visit Kentuck Knob, return to Ohiopyle and after just crossing over the bridge, take your immediate right onto Ohiopyle Road. When you get to a “T” at the top of the hill, take a left. You are now on Kentuck Knob Road. Look for signs on your right. After touring, continue south on this same road until you reach Route 40 again. You will be in the town of Chalk Hill. Visit the Christian W. Klay Winery.
