Here is all you need to know about the 2014 SavageMan Triathlon Festival.
Deep Creek Lake and the rugged Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland provide a setting of unmatched beauty and gorgeous scenery and feature two courses that will certainly bring out the true “Savage” in all who dare to conquer. From the competitive racer to the leisurely novice participant, the SavageMan Triathlon is a race for both. Whether swimming in the sparkling blue Deep Creek Lake, riding the smooth and sometimes challenging roads of Garrett County, or running on Deep Creek State Park trails, you will be challenged and awed by the SavageMan Triathlon Festival races.
The SavageMan Triathlon offers two options, the 30.0 or the 70.0. The SavageMan 30.0 Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon consisting of 0.93-mile of swimming, 22.9 miles of biking, and 6.2 miles of running. The SavageMan 30.0 offers athletes a shorter, less stressful triathlon alternative to the flagship SavageMan 70.0 Triathlon, while still allowing athletes to enjoy all the beauty of the area. Athletes will get just a taste of the Deep Creek Lake hills on the SavageMan 30.0.
The Triathlon will begin in waves at 9:30 A.M. Athletes will start the event with swimming and then move on to biking. After riding through the beautiful scenery in quiet, rolling farmland roads, athletes will finish their triathlon in the single loop 10K run course. After finishing the tiring but satisfying race, be ready to enjoy all of the amenities and fun of the SavageMan Festival and post-race party.
If you a unsure as to which race to choose, test your inner savage and take on the SaveageMan 70.0 Triathlon! The SavageMan 70.0 Triathlon is the flagship event of the SavageMan Triathlon Festival and has established legendary status after just the inaugural year and sell-out status in all subsequent years. Many aspects, such as the spectacular race venue, make this race a truly unique and special event. The extremely challenging course leaves athletes to believe the appropriateness of the title given to the race: “World’s Most Savage and Most Beautiful Triathlon.”
During the race, the Westernport Wall Block Party will be taking place, an experience unique to this triathlon. The 31% grade, lined with screaming, cowbell-ringing spectators, will give athletes a boost of energy while running by!
