Fall is a magnificent time in Maryland. The temperatures are cooling off, the leaves are changing to beautiful hues of red, orange and yellow, and the aroma of pumpkins, turkeys and cider waft through the air. At Lake Pointe Inn, we will take time to celebrate this wonderful time of year at the Autumn Glory Festival, and we think you should too. Here’s why you should attend the 47th Annual Autumn Glory Festival.
Be a Part of History
The residents of Deep Creek Lake have been celebrating the wonder of the fall season for more than 60 years. What started in the 1950’s as a local turkey growers’ event has today become a five-day celebration that attracts more than 60,000 attendees. In 2007, MSN.com listed the Autumn Glory Festival tops among fall festivals in the world. Be a part of history today as you sample the turkey recipes that came from the first annual festival including the infamous “GarLand” roast turkey: “Gar” for Garrett County and “Land” for Maryland, known for its gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and cranberry sauce accompaniments.
Explore Deep Creek Lake
Over the course of the five day festival, Autumn Glory Festival events are held throughout the greater Deep Creek Lake area. While the events make up a big part of the Autumn Glory Festival, the scenic drives from venue to venue will be what really immerses you in the experience. Take time to experience one of the Fall Foliage Driving Tours to celebrate the peace and beauty of fall.
Experience the Season in a New Way
There is something for everyone at the Autumn Glory Festival. You may be looking forward to the Antique Show while your son looks forward to the Tournament of Bands, but maybe neither of you have experienced Pumpkin Chucking before. That may become your new fall tradition! Or, what about attending the Banjo and Mandolin Championship? The Autumn Glory Festival will give you and your family an opportunity to experience the glorious fall season in a whole new way.
Shop for Unique Gifts
The holidays are right around the corner and the Autumn Glory Festival is the perfect time to attack your holiday shopping list. There are several craft shows during the weekend, the largest of which is the two day Craft and Gift Show held at the Garrett County Fairgrounds. The Craft and Gift Show will feature 60 craft vendors showcasing candles, pottery, jewelry, knitted items, woodcrafts, lotions and more. Enjoy shopping for these handicraft items directly from the artisans who made them!
