Enjoy a tour through some Amish country and tour the Spruce Forest Artisan Village where you can watch potters, forgers, woodcarvers, soapmakers and weavers create their crafts. During the Harvest, you can stop by and purchase homemade Maple Syrup from the nearby farmers.
DIRECTIONS: Take Route 219 north beyond the entrance to Route 68. Take a right onto Route 40 and travel East. Take a left onto Route 669 north toward Springs, Pa. Yoder’s Country Store is on your right. There is an Amish Display at the Springs Museum. Travel around these back roads and you will be certain to spot a manicured Amish Farm or a horse drawn buggy.
Retrace your route back to Route 40 and take it East again. Shop at several of the antique shops you will see in Grantsville, stop in at the old road house ” The Casselman Inn” full of history. Beyond the town, on your left, visit the Old National Road Stone Bridge. Bring a picnic or grab lunch at the Penn Alps Restaurant, or The Cornucopia Cafe. Visit the Artisans at the Spruce Forest Artisan Village.
Head for home by continuing East on Route 40 and take a right at the Hilltop Fruit Market (Chestnut Ridge Road). Pass over I-68 and at the “t”; take a left onto New Germany road. At next “t”, bear left onto #495. Travel to the first road on your right (1.5 miles) and make a right onto Glendale Road. Cross over the Glendale Bridge and travel to 219. Take a right to travel #219 north to return to the Inn.
