Lake Pointe Inn Meet the New Owners

One of our monthly blog posts on what to see, do, or where to eat on Deep Creek Lake and Western Maryland.

Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time, there was a handsome boy from Texas who grew up to have a successful career in the hospitality industry who met a girl that was a college professor from an Amish town. They got married and had a dream of buying a beautiful bed and breakfast, so they did. The end.

Well … sort of.

Scott and I purchased the Lake Pointe Inn on October 1, 2016. As promised, here’s a little bit about us.

Scott Lack

Scott’s family moved several times during his formative years, during which he lived in Washington state, Wisconsin and Texas. He has been in the hospitality industry his whole adult life, owning restaurants, franchises, and for the past decade, he functioned corporately as the Vice President of Operations for Wing Stop, one of the first successful chicken wing restaurants in the US. He traveled extensively, worked hard and ate a lot of great food (lol), but his life was rather boring and mundane until March 13, 2015 when he saw me on the news, getting roughed up at a protest. (That’s a story for the fire pit when I’m at least on my second glass of wine.)

My dossier, on the other hand, isn’t quite as harmonious or congruent. In fact, if you didn’t know me, you might think I’m a little psychotic or, at the very least, curiously amusing. I grew up in an Amish town, joined the Army when I was 17, sang in a band, worked in a men’s federal prison, sold tools to a 3-state territory, was a representative for a designer eyewear brand, birthed two sons, got involved in Libertarian politics and, for the past decade, taught college-level criminal justice and psychology.

About Us

Scott wears cowboy hats and I still have a handcuff key on my key-ring from my prison days.

I love red wine. Scott loves Texas Tech football.

We both get teary and emotional when we hear the Star Spangled Banner.

Scott makes amazing spaghetti and I love to eat it so we are perfect for each other.

We have five babies between the two of us, ranging from 17 – 34, and we’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t tell them where we live. We are still on our honeymoon as far as they are concerned. (We just got married in March of 2016)

Scott is an extrovert who loves to get up early and I am a total introvert (actually a little shy) and would sleep ’til noon and read books all day if allowed.

Scott is fully qualified to run a BnB, and I am fully qualified to power-wash duck feathers off the dock, launder the wash clothes in the dungeon, render inane opinions on wine and occasionally launch into passionate discussions on the founding fathers of our nation.

I have a tattoo that says “live free or die” with the Gadsden flag on my right shoulder.

Scott traded in his convertible sports car (“mid-life crisis car”?) for a Jeep when we bought the inn.

Last year for Christmas I got him Garth Brooks tickets in Las Vegas and this year he got me “Hamilton” tickets in New York.

We are crazy about each other…or maybe just crazy.

Regardless, we are the cool kids.

We have wonderfully interesting friends, some of whom go back more than 40 years. We have delightfully engaging neighbors that we are meeting every week and even more intriguing guests here at the inn.

There’s so much more to say, but at this point, don’t you think you should just come have a drink around the fire, roast a homemade marshmallow and meet the new owners in person?

Your hug is waiting.
