Just across from Lake Pointe Inn is Wisp Resort, a four-season mountain getaway in Garrett County, Maryland. Long known as a winter escape for skiers and snowboarders, Wisp Resort has a variety of activities to choose from, whether there is snow on the mountain or not.
Skiing and Snowboarding
Skiing and snowboarding are probably the first activities that come to mind when thinking of winter sports. Wisp Resort has everything you need to enjoy these classic alpine pastimes. With trails for beginners and skilled skiers alike, its frosty fun for the whole family. Wisp also offers equipment rentals rentals and instruction from professionals. The Burton Learn to Ride Programs offer riders of all ages and abilities the opportunity to master snowboarding. This easy, thrilling ride downhill is sure to please all visitors. All the fun of sledding without any of the trudging up the hill. Wisp has twelve 750 foot long tube chutes and two “conveyer carpets” to take you up hill. Adults and kids 42” and taller are allowed to ride.
If you’re not looking to go downhill, the Nordic Center may be what you’re looking for. This 50 KM trail spans wooded and open areas featuring both flat and rolling terrain. Take on the challenge on Nordic Skis or Snowshoes. Instruction and tours are also available.
Wisp Resort has its own par 72, 18-hole golf course, perfect for the person in your party who loves to tee up. The Wisp Golf Course was named on of the “100 Must-Play Courses of the Mid-Atlantic” by Golfstyles Magazine. The course features beautiful views of the mountains and was designed to fit into the contours of the base of the Wisp Resort ski slopes. With several tee boxes to choose from, the Wisp Golf Course is great fun for golfers of all abilities.
Wisp Resort provides several ways to enjoy Deep Creek Lake and the Youghiogheny River. With rental services (including a delivery service) and tours of all sorts, Wisp Resort can get you on the water in a fun new way. Paddleboard tours are the popular new way to get around the lake, and kayak and pontoon boat tours are available as well. And Wisp Resort has teamed up with Laurel Highlands River Tours for white water rafting adventures on the Youghioheny River.
NASTAR Racing: Every Saturday and Sunday skiers and snowboarders of all abilities can enter these races.
Snowmobiling: 30 minute guided snowmobile tours are available daily, weather permitting.
Ice Skating: Wisp has its own 50’ x 85’ oval ice rink, complete with a mini-Zamboni, benches, twinkle lights and a bonfire area. Skating lessons and rentals available.
Mountain Coaster: This Alpine Slide/Roller Coaster hybrid rolls and turns down 3,500 feet down Wisp Mountain through the forest.
Disc Golf: There are two disc golf courses. The 9-hole course at the base of the mountain is perfect for families and the 18-hole Mountain Course includes a chairlift ride to Hole #1. Equipment available for rental.
Scenic Chair Lift Rides: Enjoy the views when skiing isn’t in season by taking a relaxing ride on the chairlift to the top of the mountain.
Mountain Biking: Beginner downhill biking trail is new and open of riders.
Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour: Explore the treetops with this challenge course with agility challenges and zip lines ranging from 180 feet to more than 400 feet.
